Final tests
Missed wooden parts of interior finishing were manufactured and available original wooden parts of interior were restored. In order to manufacture the missing wooden parts we chosen wood species and colour that were typical for "Mercedes-Benz" at the manufacturing time of this cabriolet.
Renovated interior trim panels and seats were returned from the leather and trim shop.
Leather finish was applied on those visible areas of the body at the rear of the passenger compartment. The leather lining was glued onto the entire inner surface of the soft-top box as it originally was.
Sound insulation mats were fixed onto the inner surface of the passenger compartment. According to original technique, sound insulation material was attached to specific areas on the boot floor.
We commenced installation of the various restored environmental systems - heating and ventilation floor ducting were fitted and connected to the main blower unit.
All wooden dashboard panels were restored - freshly veneered and varnished. We also used the restored leather-trim panels during assembly of the dashboard.
Interrelated parts of the leather trim were carefully adjusted before final fastening to provide unblemished appearance. Lower interior leather lined trim panels, situated behind the A-pillars were also installed.
The newly upholstered rear seats were installed followed by the side trim panels.
New cover for folded cabriolet roof was ordered. Before order was fixed we tested compatibility of the sample.
Front seats were installed and car was prepared for the first test drive.
Interior assembling was continued installing renovated door trim panels. Then all switches and handles were put into place.
Interior trim panels and corresponding switches, handles and decorations were returned to previous positions.
Restored Becker Radio was fixed into slot. New electrical antenna was installed.
New cover for folded cabriolet roof was received from leather sewing-shop completing fresh appearance of the car.
At the moment sunblind supports appeared as serious problem - old units on account of advanced age were broken, but such new parts were not available. We continued chasing for possible supplier.
Assembling of the dashboard was completed installing all handles, switches and gauges.
All interior components were installed and operation was consequently checked. Carpets were fixed according to original specification.
Operation of all controls was tested. Restored electro-mechanical clock and gloves compartment light were fully functional.
