Workshop Progress Report: Fuel System Teardown & Inspection Phase
The technical log documents the disassembly and evaluation of fuel delivery components for the Mercedes Benz 280SL w113 restoration project.
These photos will describe the fuel system dismantling and inspecting that was done during the last week. Technicians dropped the main fuel tank from the rear floorpan cavity, unthreaded the sending unit, and dismantled the trunk-mounted expansion tank with its associated ventilation vapor lines. Undercarriage inspection focused on the electric fuel pump assembly; the Bosch roller-cell pump unit was unmounted, disassembled, and assessed, revealing heavy contamination and carbon brush wear inside the motor housing. Fuel lines and inline filtration units were likewise detached and cataloged for overhaul.
