Mercedes-Benz 280SL - a successor to 190SL model that was popular in 50's of XX century, which, thanks to the characteristic shape of the roof was called "Pagoda". Namely, to facilitate boarding and provide plenty of room in the cabin, there was designed the high doorway, and to preserve strength of the roof and meet safety requirements, its central part was made lower then edge of the sides. 230SL, 250SL and 280SL models were released on W113 platform.

More than half of the vehicles produced were exported to the United States. Only for the U.S. market there was produced the 4-seat coupe California-Coupe, which had not the drop-down roof, but instead of roof storage compartment had bench for two extra seaters. Thanks to the modern for its time and powerful engine, disc brakes on all wheels and comfortable interior trim, and despite the fact that unlike the previous models, the 280SL model lost its sporting character of suspension, among collectors who like to drive their vintage cars, the most popular is particularly the 280SL model.
