Repair of the engine auxiliaries

Mercedes-Benz 190SL received partsWe have received parts which were ordered for braking system repair - brake hoses, master and wheel cylinders, as well as parts for brake booster repair including new brakepower cylinder.

There is cleaned and sent to galvanising first batch of specific components.

Clutch components - flywheel and pressure plate - are checked and prepared for installation onto the engine.

Available engine components are going through disassembly and defects detection followed by cleaning and restoration. First in process is alternator - before any tests it goes to disassembly and cleaning. Electrical components finally appear not usable, bearings and sealings are worn out as well and shall be replaced.

Pedal unit goes to disassembly and cleaning before restoration. Picture shows original factory production quality inspection marks - see yellow spots on threaded joints.

Cleaned and checked pedal assembly is stored for further surface treatment operations.

Windscreen wiper mechanism is disassembled to check condition and perform necessary maintenance operations. Gears have survived through fifty years, but grease has dried out. Restored mechanism is stored for further installation in place.

As other components also brake booster goes through restoration process. For this unit we have ordered and received new master cylinder as well as new diaphragm to avoid any compromise on safety.

Brake booster first is completely disassembled and after inspection suitable parts are cleaned, painted or galvanized and stored for further assembly.

We continue repair works on engine compartment equipment - original distributor rotor unit is rusted, but seems complete and repairable. Distributor mechanism is completely disassembled and all useful parts are going to cleaning and surface treatment.

Windscreen wiper motor and gearbox is greased, assembled and tested before further installation onto attachment plate.

After cleaning, body painting and attachment parts galvanizing we compose alternator using new bearings and sealings. New stator coils and rotor are used instead of previous which were damaged. When tested unit is stored until further assembly onto the engine. Unfortunately it is needed to search for a pulley - previous was damaged.

Depending on functionality components of distributor are sent for painting or galvanizing. Missing and broken parts are added onto the spare parts list.

All components of the brake booster are restored and using new rubber parts as well as completely new brakepower cylinder we finish restoration of this assembly.

Passenger compartment ventilation and heating units undergo restoration course. Radiators are totally cleaned by glass pellets and pressure tested before new paint is applied. Components of air ducts are already fresh galvanized.

Available components of the electrical system are maintained and restored covers are reinstalled.

Braking fluid tank was too damaged for restoration, but all other components have been restored and mated to new reservoir waiting for assembling of the braking system.

There was received, reconditioned at Mercedes specialist in USA, 190SL engine.

All air channel residuals were cleaned by glass pellets and given to tinman's shop for restoration. Passenger side ventilation unit is not available as spare part, so we were forced to restore remnants of existing airducts.

Air valves in defroster air ducts were destroyed. We produced new valves and control linkage elements. Air valves were assembled and installed into defroster air ducts.

Wires which were not a part of new central harness were restored and installed in appropriate locations.

Damaged by rust passenger side ventilation inlet shroud was restored using brass soldering.

Heavily damaged passenger side air distributor housing which is not available as spare part was completely rebuilt from new self made parts according to original technology. We produce exact copy of the air distributor housing.

Damaged driver side air inlet shroud was restored replacing part of the shell by gas welding and brass soldering. Before painting of restored components compatibility with other adjacent parts was tested.

Engine and attached gearbox had been installed onto restored subframe using new cushions.

Restored oil filter housing was installed into place comprising fresh filter element. Restored water pump and thermostat were installed in place.

Passenger side heater unit was assembled from restored components. Passenger side heater unit was installed in the engine compartment.

New driver side heater unit was furnished with restored radiator and fan unit and installed in the engine compartment.
