Transportation of the body to the surface treatment.
08.05.2006
Prior to transportation for treatment with a sandblaster, we set up the prepared body on a special adjustable conduction which will make work easier during the cleaning process, as well as later during welding and painting.
Treatment of the surface with a sandblaster will be carried out in a special chamber.
The most corroded areas have been cut out, because it was already clear beforehand that they could not be repaired. This makes access to sealed cavities easier and ensures that their surfaces receive quality cleaning treatment.
Treating the body with a sandblaster will remove all contaminants and old paint, leaving only clean metal.
After treatment with the sandblaster, previously invisible rusted through areas appear. Holes in the back of the salon, on the right side.
Rusted through places on the floor under the seats.
Even bigger holes than those on the right side appear on the salon floor behind the driver’s seat.
Inspecting the cleaned surface close-up, we discover quite a lot of rusted through places of various sizes that were previously invisible.
View of the right side salon front wall.
There is also a big hole in one of the longerons.
The other longeron is in satisfactory condition, but holes are revealed in the wheel arc and at the salon partition wall next to the arc.
After treatment with a sandblaster, deformed areas of the body become clearly visible. At the rear in this photo - after the accident, the body was not straightened out, but simply filled in.
Overall, the floor in the boot section is in good condition, especially right above the fuel tank.
We discover one place which will require additional treatment with the sandblaster.
The upper frontal part of the body is quite significantly deformed.
Holes leading to the engine compartment are revealed on the inside of the right side front wing.
The salon floor looks as it has been assaulted by pellets.
Holes in the floor right under the driver’s seat.
After careful inspection of the newly discovered damage, we cut out the damaged zones and replaced them with new replacement parts.
We prepared the parts due to be chromed in preparation for chroming and sent the first party for restoration of the cover. We also send the corresponding cleaned parts to be galvanized.
2007.03.05
After replacement of the most severely damaged body parts, correction of the slightest welding, refinement or mechanical deformities, filling in and refinement, the body and its individual components were delivered to be painted.
Both doors were received after painting along with the engine and boot hoods.
Doorsteps and windscreen supports were also prepared and painted separately.
Now, the entire body has been painted in the necessary tone and varnished. External paintwork “mist” visible in the boot - this will have to be repainted with black paint.
External paintwork “mist” also visible on the inside of the salon will have to be repainted black.
A light external paintwork “mist” has also fallen in the engine compartment - this will have to be repainted.
After renovation, the body is prepared for welding stitch treatment with an elastic coating.
The body has reacquired its original appearance and there are no more unplanned holes or mechanical defects.
When renovation of the black paintwork on the inside of the body has been completed, we can begin assembly.
2007.04.25
We get to work taking apart the removed aggregates and systems and determining defects.
Take the gearbox apart. Overall, it is in working order, and only requires cleaning, as well as replacement of its bearings and packing rings.
2007.04.26
Prior to being taken apart, the rear axle is carefully cleaned right down to the metal.
The main gear and housing parts are in satisfactory condition, but the bearings and all rubber materials – packing rings, bushings, etc. definitely have to be replaced.
Overall, the brake systems were in good condition. All parts can be repaired. The brake pads will, of course, be replaced.
14.05.2007
The boot hood hinges can be repaired.
They only require careful cleaning and painting.
23.05.2007
The salon’s ventilation and heating air input can be repaired.
New rubber is required for the air input valve.
We restored the fingers of the wheel.
07.09.2007.
Decorative body parts are sent for chroming.
Rear brake shoes are in reasonably good condition. All parts can be repaired quite easily.
The brake shoes and a second wheel and other brake mechanism parts are in good condition. Only the brake pads need to be replaced.
Every part will be cleaned and galvanized as required before the rear brakes can be put together again.
27.11.2007
Salon heating equipment part on the passenger-side . In reality, it’s in better condition than the image suggests.
It only requires cleaning, renewed paintwork and replacement of its rubber parts.
07.02.2008
Irrespective that the retractable soft top roof is damage beyond repair, the roof frame itself is in good condition overall.
The frame is taken apart; the aluminium parts are sent for cleaning and a few metal fragments affected by corrosion have to be restored.
Due to noticeable wear and tear, the bands supporting the soft top hood will also have to be replaced.
