Electrical wiring and electrical system repair

Overhauling of starter motor we started with complete disasembly. No damaged parts were found. As necessary maintenance operations were carried out starter motor was assembled.

Examination of the compressor led us to opinion that it was in mechanically good order. We decided to leave it assembled to keep all factory adjustments untouched. High pressure fuel injection pump also was in good technical order, so we shall remove for surface reconditioning just components which did not affect factory settings of the pump.

Windscreen wiper drive was overhauled and prepared for installation.

Intake manifold was completed using restored parts. Restored electrical components were attached to complete construction.

Using restored components horn signals were assembled; adjusting of sound tone also was completed. Alternator was assembled and tested before installation.

Using restored parts pump unit was completed. Removed for restoration parts of compressor were returned to initial positions.

During assembling of the electrical appliances in the engine compartment it was found, that several devices had been disconnected by specific modification of the harness and connections. Among others there were switched off both ballast resistors of the ignition circuit as well as modern for the time transistorized ignition unit. Transistorized ignition unit appeared damaged and most probably it has been the reason for such "simplified" connection putting excessive load to the breaker points. This "smart" solution was replaced by initially used original connection.
