Mercedes-Benz 280SL dismanled rear decorations Mercedes-Benz 280SL dismanled front decorationsAll decorations at the rear part of the car were dismantled. Here we discovered just rusted spots of no significant value at the bumper brackets attachment points. At the front part after all decorations removing we found rust spots around front grille screw punctures.

Repair of the engine compartment we started with hood removing. In several areaswere  clearly visible body panels affected by corrosion. Most of components and parts in the engine compartment had been lost protective layer of paint or zinc long time ago.

First we removed all big ancillaries from the engine compartment. We separated from engine all systems and components preventing disassembly of the power plant.

We disconnected and removed gearbox. In next turn engine of 280SL was taken out. Further all auxiliary systems were separated from engine block.

Remaining small electrical components and wiring were removed from the engine compartment. We removed braking and steering system components for further assessment of the technical condition.

Disassembled parts were grouped according to planned further steps - simple parts were at once cleaned, but assemblies first went to the assessment of the technical condition. Further restoration steps of each unit were based on the results of individual assessment. High pressure pump was in good working condition, so complete disassembly was not required.

Main braking cylinder appeared damaged - after separation from booster chamber we found vacuum chamber partly filled with braking fluid. Diaphrgm still is in working condition since there was no trace of braking fluid in opposite chamber.
