Assembling and final tests

We started assembling of the car. First new piping was installed under the body.

Received new harness was checked before installation.

Car was separated from the transportation jig prior to axle installation.

Prefabricated axles were attached to the body using new rubber cushions.

Trailing arms were attached to the body via new rubber cushions.

New springs and shock absorbers were installed on rear axle.

New hand brake cables were attached to the rear axle.

Front axle was installed also using all new rubber elements.

As axles were installed, restored wheels took dedicated place.

There were missing 6 wheel bolts for front axle, which were put on required spare parts list.

Since alloy wheels are not original for this model, there was needed additionally replace all ten wheel studs, which were much too short for given combination.

All available specific fastenings were galvanized and prepared for assembling.

Firewall insulation pad was tailored according to the original shape and attached over the surface in the engine compartment. Lack of ordered long time ago rubber plugs and rings was preventing further assembling of the components in the engine compartment.

Sound deadening pads were attached to the door shell inner surfaces.

Body outside panels were covered by sound deadening mats.

Sound insulation mats were tailored according to original shape and attached to the body panels under the dash. Lack of ordered long time ago rubber plugs and rings was preventing further assembling and installation of piping and wire harness under the dash.

Window lifting mechanisms were installed in the body and doors. Missing door window glasses were obstructing further assembling of side windows, as well as repair of cabriolet roof frame.

Engine support blocks were preassembled from restored and new components.

Engine support blocks were installed onto front axle beam.

All available components were assembled as far as possible and shelved waiting for missing parts delivery.

Pedal block with clutch and braking master cylinders was installed onto the body.

New fuel and braking fluid lines were led through the engine compartment to appropriate locations.

Restored steering column was installed under the dashboard.

Current batch of spare parts was received from suppliers facilitating assembling.

Window mechanisms were installed into the body.

Restored steering column, pedal block and handbrake control mechanism were installed under the dashboard.

Installing shock absorbers and connecting brake lines installation of the rear axle was completed.

All pipes under the body were fixed using new rubber fasteners.

Restored intermediate baring was installed together with restored propeller shaft.

Using re-created support block and restored support plate gearbox was fixed in place.

Restored steering gear was installed into position and connected to the steering rods, as well as to the Powersteering pump by new hoses.

Braking hoses were connected to the front braking mechanisms completing installation of the front axle.

New rubber components were used for assembling of the axles and antiroll bar.

Preassembled windows were installed facilitating adjustment and repairing of cabriolet roof frame.

Using re-plated frame and fresh galvanized structural components side windows were assembled.

New window felts were installed on re-plated holders.

Restored air filter was installed into engine compartment.

Renovated exhaust front section was installed onto the engine.

Restored radiator was installed into the place.

New protective shroud was used for installation of new fuel pump.

Used fuel tank was tested and cleaned before installation.

We installed and adjusted restored hand brake actuator mechanism.

New piping and cables were fixed under the body as prescribed by manufacturer using new fastenings.

All hoses and pipes in the engine compartment were fixed using new fastenings.

New cable harness was connected to the consumers of electrical current.

Restored distributors and injectors were connected to the fuel lines.

Relays tested on the test rig were installed in place.

We installed injection pump, which was received from defects detection in German Bosch workshop.

Restored heater unit after tests was installed under the dashboard.

New Bosch horns were installed and connected to the electrical system.

Final painting of the outer surface of the body was completed.

Heater unit was connected to the engine’s cooling system using new pipes.

Restored air ducts were installed in the passenger compartment.

Restored headlamps were installed onto the front wings.

Leather trimming layer was lied over dedicated surfaces in the passenger and folding roof storage compartments.

Just in time we acquired new hooding tensioning profile – now we may start soft top installation.

Fuel tank was fixed under the luggage compartment floor.

We finished works into the luggage compartment installing wire harness, sound deadening mats and blanking caps.

New luggage compartment sidewall insert was manufactured for installation of gasoline fumes arrester canister.

Door handles were returned into the position and interconnected to other door mechanisms.

Folding top frame was installed into the position and tailored wooden components were attached facilitating further assembling works.

New windscreen was inserted into the frame using new rubber and locking profile.

New Hirschmann manual antenna was installed on the wing.

All dismantled body components were received from paint shop for installation.

Engine hood, luggage compartment lid and ventilation aperture cover were installed and adjusted to fit the body.

Soft-top recreation we started affixing to the restored frame new headliner.

Recreation of the soft top was continued installing by skilled craftsman new padding which finally provides smooth appearance of the hooding.

We bought and installed new steering wheel lock ensuring further dashboard assembling.

Renovated dashboard wooden components were installed into the place.

Renovated exhaust system was installed underneath the body.

Renovated fuel tank was attached under luggage compartment floor.

New horns were installed under front crossmember.

Restored reflectors were used for rear lamp assembling.

Last touch restoring soft top was caromed rail installation over rear hooding seam.

Just received long awaited roof front decoration was installed without any restoration as requested.

As last decoration at the rear end, Mercedes star was attached to luggage compartment lid.

Installation of prepared interior trimming we started with rear bench side panels.

As necessary for installation bought used bumper brackets were repaired, bumper was installed onto the car and accordingly adjusted.

We continued assembling of the dashboard installing received chromed components.

Chromed doorstep mouldings and doorstep protective plates were fixed to the body.

Prepared radiator mask and front bumper assembling unit were attached and aligned to the body.

Restored steering wheel was installed onto the steering column.

Re-created door trimming panels were installed in place.

Restored rear view mirror was attached to the door panel.

Long-time sought-after missing rear side trim embellishers finally was found and re-plated.

As side embellishers were received, we were able to finish installation of restored side trimmings for second row of seats.

Restored front seats were installed in place.

Functionality of all installed interior components was checked.

Body and chassis identification plates were returned to the prescribed position.

All informative stickers were placed in the engine compartment.

All necessary informative stickers were placed at the rear end of the body.

Preparing car for the test drive we completed all prescribed pre-delivery maintenance operations and adjustments.

Wheel alignment was performed on the laser test rig.

Water tightness test was completed before test drive started.

Car was ready to hit the road for first the hundreds of miles after recovery.

Encouraged by weather conditions we completed envisaged test run.

After trial on the road, we completed prescribed by run-in rules necessary maintenance operations, including oil changes and required adjustments.

Hand-over was left as the last operation of restoration course.
