Mercedes Benz 250SL w113
VIN 113043 12 005...
Production Year: 1967
The Mercedes-Benz 250SL (W113) is often referred to as the "Goldilocks" or the "forgotten" Pagoda. Produced for only about a year between December 1966 and January 1968, it served as the bridge between the original, sporty 230SL and the final, more luxurious 280SL.
The 250SL is the rarest of the three W113 models, with only 5,196 units produced. While it looks nearly identical to the 230SL on the outside, it was a significant mechanical upgrade. It retained the stiffer, sportier suspension of the early cars but introduced the improved braking and safety features that would eventually define the 280SL. It also introduced the "California Coupe" version—a rare 2+2 variant with a fold-down rear bench seat that replaced the soft-top storage well.

Summary of Differences
-
Driving Character: The 250SL is more flexible than the 230SL. While peak speed and power are similar, the extra torque makes the 250SL much easier to drive in modern traffic and better suited for the automatic transmission.
-
Safety: The 250SL marked the transition to the "safety interior," including a collapsible steering column, padded steering wheel hub, and rounded dashboard knobs.
-
Braking: It was the first SL to feature rear disc brakes and larger front discs, addressing one of the few criticisms of the original 230SL.
