Body restoration

We continued preparation of the body for repair manually cleaning eroded areas until undamaged metal. Doorsteps at the rear end were completely damaged on the both sides of the vehicle.

Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit wheel rusted arcs Flanges of the rear wheel arcs at the front bottom were completely destroyed by rust - inside and outside. Here we will need to repair also damages from mechanical impact.

On the both sides the same bad situation was around the bottom part of the rear wings. All layers of metal must be replaced.

There were discovered several areas across the body with rust focal of infection. We shall use sand-blasting and protective treatment to stop "disease".

On the front wings damages were mainly caused by mechanical impacts and following breakage of paint layer.

Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit rusted holeWe discovered rusted through hole also on the rear window frame. This dent also must be replaced by fresh metal plate.

Internal and outer panels at the rear part of LHS rear wings were rusted through. Corroded areas were cut away. First internal part of the wing was restored and further difficult of access areas were primed. Supplied wheel arch patch panels and then fabricated outer panels of the lower part of the wing were welded to place.

At the front part of the rear wheel arches it was necessary to replace both - inner and outer - destroyed by rust panels.

On the RHS damages at the rear part of the rear wings were similar to previously repaired on opposite side - obviously it is weak point of this body construction. Taking as samples cut away parts we reproduced patch panels which were welded into place to substitute rusted areas.

Similarly as on opposite side first internal panel is replaced and, as seams were grinded, it was primed. In the same sequence we did front part of the wheel arch.

Fabricated replacement panels also were primed before welding. Surfaces were grinded and tin loaded after welding. We used delivered original replacement panel for the outer edges of rear wheel arches.

During surface cleaning thee were discovered several dents on the rear body extension under RHS rear lamp. Dents were cut out until undamaged metal and replaced by fabricated fresh metal plate. Surfaces were grinded and tin loaded after welding.

There was discovered dent at the RHS lower corner of rear view window frame. Rusted through cavity was cut away until undamaged metal and replaced by fresh metal patch plate. Surfaces were grinded and tin loaded after welding.

Rusted through cavity at the lover part of rear view window was cut away until undamaged metal and replaced by fresh metal patch plate. Surfaces were grinded and tin loaded after welding.

LHS front wheel arch external surface was rusted through and we replaced it. Surfaces were grinded and tin loaded after welding.

There were heavily rusted through areas at the lower part of front wings around attachment points of fastening brackets. Destroyed areas were cut out and replaced by fresh metal.

RHS front wheel arch was damaged only at the front part. Only outer sheet was rusted through and it was replaced by patch panel. Surfaces were grinded and tin loaded after welding.

All damaged paint areas were cleaned until base metal. Prepared body was sent to paint shop.

Restored surfaces were primed, puttied and after certain time, to avoid shrivelling, grinded. Finally all prepared surfaces were primed, painted and finally varnished.

Repainted body and components were delivered for assembling. According to contract repainted were external surfaces of the body, doors, hatches and hood, as well as surfaces of those components which are visible when opened.

Whole interior floor as well as surfaces under and behind rear seats was covered by insulation material.

Luggage compartment floor pan was cleaned and rust protection treatment was carried out. Insulation layer was glued onto the luggage compartment floor.
