Workshop Progress Report: Engine Teardown & Inspection Phase
The technical report details the powertrain evaluation for the Shelby GT500 1967 restoration project.
We share the photos of the engine dismantling and inspection. Technicians mounted the V8 block on a service stand, stripping the cylinder heads, timing assembly, and oil pan. Teardown of the rotating assembly continued with the extraction of the crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons. Dimensional inspection revealed visible scoring and copper wear on the main and rod bearing shells, along with friction tracking on the crankshaft journals. Cylinder bores were inspected and gauged for taper and ovality to determine necessary block boring, line honing, and machining tolerances.
