The Renault Viva Grand Sport (branded as the Renault Vivastella Grand Sport before August 1935) was introduced alongside an updated version of the Nervastella in October 1934 at the Paris Motor Show. The last cars were produced in August 1939: in anticipation of the 1940 model year a prototype of another updated Viva Grand Sport was produced during the summer of 1939, but in the event this single car was the only one of its type to be produced.
4.1-litre six-cylinder engine produced 95hp, which was close to matching the 110hp Hotchkiss 20 CV. It took just 300m to go from 0 to 100 km/h, against 350m for the 4-litre Talbot, according to the book by Rouxel/Griselhubert/Gueldry/Dorizon, 'Renault, des automobiles de prestige'. While not groundbreaking, it sat happily in the mid-range of luxury motorcars. With a cabriolet body, it offered a remarkably spacious interior: period advertisements show six delighted passengers, three in the front and three in the back, profiting from the option of a folded-down windscreen.
As with all Renaults, the Viva Grand Sport experienced an evolution brought on by a trend for aerodynamic styling, and the version on offer has enveloping wings, shaped headlights, rear wheel fairings and a rounded rear trunk.
The car was styled by Marcel Riffard who previously had been better known as an aircraft designer.
The Viva Grand Sport was powered by a 6-cylinder straight engine with 4,085 cc (249 cu in) displacement.
